I'm Looking At You Through The Glass

Don't know how much time has passed, but I know it feels like forever and no one ever tells you that forever feels like home, sitting all alone inside your head...

I'm not sure why I titled this blog this way because I haven't heard this song in forever, but I guess when I read back on old blog titles, one of the ones with more views from the last year was titled "Through The Looking Glass" and I'm sure that's where it came from.

Anyway, this weather sucks. I came back from Punta Cana, DO which was 82-85 degrees daily with no rain, just maybe a cloud here and there to KY which was literally snowing the next day. That was a shock to my system that I'm not even sure I'm over yet.

But Punta Cana was absolutely amazing. I wanted to document here for maybe years from now I can go back and read it and remember how great it was. Not like I could forget, plus I have a bajillion photos. But, the trip went smoothly. We went to Nashville the evening before, perused the mall, I found this pair of pants that I fell in love with at H&M, then we went to downtown Nashville, valeted our car and ate at BB King's Blues restaurant, then moseyed down to some other places but it was April fool's day AND Sunday, not to say there weren't 39257 drunk asses running around, but it just wasn't as popping as it usually is, according to Darrell. We ended up at Cerveza Jack's for margaritas and live music, and then we went back to our hotel and snuggled all night and were up bright and early and through security at Nashville by about 5am. We had a nice breakfast at O'Charley's, and then it was time to board our first flight to Miami. It went well, left on time, arrived earlier than expected, etc. It was nice in Miami, warm, bright; good change from where we were, haha. Then we had some snackage in Miami, had to go through some passport stuff there, and boarded our flight to PUJ. Next stop, PARADISE! That flight also went well, we flew over the ocean 90% of the time, over the Bahamas, and who knows what else. We landed there and it was not terribly different than anywhere else. It had a coast, mountains, and was the same bright sky as the US, just lots of people speaking Spanish, haha. Which, I happen to enjoy the Spanish language. We got through their customs pretty quick, and were officially ready to wait for luggage which was the longest wait. Then we found our taxi to the resort which was a bit tricky because they were confused as to who we called for a taxi when we booked it ahead of time through the resort. We were chauffeured to the resort in an Escalade with leather and mobile wi-fi. Once we arrived at the resort, we were met by staff at the entryway outdoors with cold washcloths and champagne. Honestly, was the best champagne I've ever drank. I had two glasses before we got to the room. They toured us around the resort and showed us our suite and we checked in. Once the staff was gone, we settled in, changed clothes, went to have lunch overlooking the beach and then hit the beach. The rest of our days were filled with pools, beaches, fruity drinks being brought to us on the beach in cabanas or in lounges, hot showers under the two person rain shower, international foods galore, good coffee, good cigars, and good times. Whether we were in our rooftop pool at night enjoying the stars, breeze, and view of the ocean in the distance, or whether we were in the swim up bar in the main pool conversing with random drunk people from god knows where, or whether we were lounging on the beach, baking in the sun, we were having an amazing time. I ransacked through an old abandoned drug lord's home down the beach and videoed the inside, combed the beach for shells one evening, and wrote Emma's name in the sand like always. We also went on an excursion out into the country, that's a whole story in itself that I'll detail in the next paragraph. Some of the most memorable moments were: the pool bar, the Michael Jackson show, the excursion, coco loco, the macaw, Miami vice, pina colada, cave diving, cigars on the deck, the spa, having pics done, etc etc.

So when we went on the excursion that some dude named Christian, who thought Boston was a state, sold us...they were like 15 minutes late getting to pick us up at the outside of the resort so they sent some random van after us, stopped on the side of the road, piled us in some other van that was a manual transmission that was stinky like a gym locker and didn't have a/c. and it was completely full. I legit thought we were going to get caught up in the movie Hostel. I was paying close attention to my surroundings because I was pretty sure I'd need to know how to get back by foot just in case I escaped whatever wrath I was about to get caught up in. When we finally got out of the city, we ended up on a back road that was basically dirt and gravel with what must've been 124 pot holes and you couldn't open the windows of the van because it was too dusty since there were 39587 dune buggies going by and I swear that damn van didn't have a shock one on it. Not to mention, on the dirt road due to the bumps we had to go even slower which caused it to be hotter inside, and it was packed like sardines so everyone was breathing up all the air. Once we got to the excursion's little center area, we talked to the person who would be our leader that day and we bought some  handkerchief things to go over our mouth and nose and we already had sunglasses because they recommended face/eye cover due to dust. We bought 2 bottles of water as well to take along. We chose a yellow dune buggy, well, I did...because yellow. Turns out, it was the biggest POS ever. every gravel we hit felt like a boulder and every little bump we hit felt like a canyon. I thought the bus ride there was bad...but no. So we started out on the same road we came in on, then went off roading and there were so many kids standing by the side of the road handing you flowers or pictures they drew...some were just giving them to you to be nice, others were asking for $1 for them once you had them in your hand and would run alongside your buggy. One little girl on the way back handed me a picture and I said I don't have any money left (which wasn't a lie at that point lol) and she handed me a picture she drew anyway, and asked me if she could have my bottle of water (it was only 1/4 way full) and I of course gave that baby some water. The bumming for money and handing out flowers didn't make me terribly sad but the little girl begging for water made me sad because what kind of life do they have to have to beg for water? Our first stop was Macao beach and it was gorgeous. It was a small beach in a bend of the island, and the water matched a warm summer's day sky. Beautiful cerulean blue! People were crowded on the beach just stopping by and there were vendors and people walking around with different animals and when they would sit the animal on your shoulder or let you touch it, they would ask for money. Someone sat a huge macaw on Darrells arm and we gave him $5 because he took a photo with us and the bird and it was just really cool. We swam in the water there and cooled off, then were back on the road. We then stopped at the Tipyca house which was a place that they showed you where they make Dominican coffee, chocolate, oregano, mamauana, cigars, etc etc. We bought 3 jars of Dominican coffee, some cigars, and would've loved to have the chocolate because it was incredible. Then it was off to an underground water hole that was inside of a cave. We got to jump in the water and it was soooo cool and refreshing and clean. The water just FELT fresh. Some man put a necklace on me and then got pissed because we didn't buy anything from him. But we legit didn't have any cash left. The macaw on the beach got the last of it, which was totally worth it. By that point we had a different buggy because ours kept stalling out, not to mention the bumpiness of it, lol. So we headed back to the excursion center and we waited there a while until the buggy came to get us. We rode back on a covered flatbed type vehicle that they used specifically to transport customers back and forth. It was a nice ride because the wind flowed through the bars and the canopy and they were able to hit the bumps and it not be totally miserable. Once we were back at the hotel, we paid the driver for the coffee and cigars we got and I stopped by and scheduled our couples spa appointment, stopped and got 2 Coco Locos, and once we were back in the room we had a nice shower, a snack, and it was time for our photo appointment.

All in all without updating a bunch of other stuff, I have to say that our honeymoon was absolutely amazing and I couldn't ask for anything better and I couldn't ask for a better husband to experience it with. I never thought I would experience anything like that, going out of the country to the tropics to an all inclusive resort, I felt like a real grown up and the luckiest woman in the world. I am so blessed. I love you Darrell Alan Dicey <3 <3 <3
